How Marcel got hooked

Morocco is a magical country. When Marcel first visited the South of Morocco the magnificent scenery took his breath away

The warmth and welcome of the Berber people, the history which takes you back to a bygone age.  The art, culture and creativity. This is why Marcel built the Riad Marrat. A master piece of architecture and Artisan skills.

Things Marcel loves about Morocco

Morocco is filled with a million jewels, from the amazing buildings, artefacts, crafts, carpets,  pottery,  and of course the expert way the people can craft almost anything from nothing. This it is what Marcel fell in love with.  It is endless, it is timeless.......

GETTING TO RIAD MARRAT

We can help you find us

FROM CASABLANCA

Take a flight to Ouarzazate.  Stay over night at a hotel.  Our owner always stays at Les Jardins De Ouarzazate but there are many hotels to choose from.

Rent a car and driver, or self drive from Ouarzazate to Zagora

for a fabulous tour through the Draa Valley.  The journey to Riad Marrat in Zagora and Amezrou takes just 3.5 hrs.

FROM MARRAKECH

Take a direct flight from Marrakech to Zagora where we can arrange to meet you at the airport.

An alternative and very interesting option, depending on your schedule,  is to rent a car in Marrakech and enjoy a 5 hour journey to Ouarzazate over the incredible 2,000 meter high Atlas Mountains.

Spend one night in Ouarzazate at the hotel Les Jardins De Ouarzazate  before driving on to see the film set studios where such movies as Ben Hur and the Gladiator were made.

In Ouarzazate you can explore the large market place, town centre and shops.  you just have to enjoy the old Kasbah Palace with its gorgeous restaurant placed on top of the hill, a break before heading down to Zagora and Riad Marrat.

Remember that driving in the wintertime, you may experience some snow and delays travelling over the Atlas Mountains.

When you arrive in Zagora you will notice the change in the landscape.  There are massive boulders, contrasting with the Draa Valley where it is lush and green and full of flowers except for in the heat of full summer.

See small villages in remote areas where people are still using donkeys for transport.

The Berber and Black people in this area live simple lives together  in perfect harmony.

When to visit

Check out our Accommodation and Rates to view High and Low Seasons.

July and August are very hot months and we do not advise travelling at this time as temperatures can exceed 40 degrees.

However for those suffering with  rheumatics the high temperatures can be very beneficial.

Many people use the hot sand as a therapeutic way to ease aches and pains in their joints.

Riad Marrat is fully equipped with heating to manage those colder months and the air conditioning and delightful swimming pool assist you to cope with those hotter days.
